"Vikings" fans won't have to wait until season 5 to meet Jonathan Rhys Meyers' mystery character.
Series creator Michael Hirst revealed to The Hollywood Reporter last week that Meyers' character will make his debut on the historical drama series before the second half of season 4 ends.
"Yes, we introduce him [in season 4B] and set the scene for the next season," Hirst said. "He's going to be a major player. Personally it's exciting because it brings us back together from 'Tudor' times. Jonny's a great actor and another wonderful presence on screen, so I am thrilled that he's joined us and I can't wait to explore his character."
The 38-year-old Irish actor, who is set to be a series regular in season 5, previously worked with Hirst on Showtime's "The Tudors."
News of Meyers' casting was announced last March. The announcement came with the news that "Vikings" was renewed for a 20-episode fifth season.
"The brilliant writing and depth of historical research and authenticity brought to the screen by Michael Hirst paired with our talented cast and crew, has made this series one of the most compelling, visually stunning historical dramas on television," said History president and general manager Jana Bennett in a statement. "Vikings has raided the hearts of audiences and we are thrilled that Jonathan Rhys Myers will become a bigger part of the History family after his incredible performance in our upcoming production of 'Roots.'"
